*takes deep breath* fuwaaaaaaaaaa~
Tribute my long hiatus to constant load of uni work. T________________T
For the past few weeks - let's say... 3 weeks or so, have been hell. Not for all subjects though. Maybe just programming.
Computer Programming
I feel that learning Java reminded me of when I first started learning HTML (my first attempt was probably in standard 6 or form 1); lots of trial and error, lots of time spent on figuring out how things work, and lots of time getting it wrong, and cracking my pathetic brain figuring out WHAT went wrong, and HOW to fix it.
In short, I actually like this subject but I need more time with it.
The only huuge hitch is that this is costing me marks. *siiiigh* For the first 2 weeks, the practicals given were fine, since most of it was subjective questions, pretty much like those questions you get for science subjects in high school. What really sucked was the first official week of creating a code, which was the 3rd week. I remember I was staying up doing it until 3am cause I had to go out throughout the weekend (had to meaning I don't think I had much of a choice) and I STILL didn't know what the heck I was supposed to do to get my outcome. I didn't even understand how to read the freaking API. I don't know what API stands for, but at least now I know how to decipher it. In the end, I didn't get much of an outcome. XP Just for that week. Into the 2nd official week of programming and I think I fared waaay better - not fantastic though, since I devoted my entire weekend into doing it. A huge enlightenment for me.
What gave me a fright was when ms mylini suddenly called me, darren and faiz to her office after the practical session.
"What did I do? Plagarise? Where? What? I don't think I did.... Just because I discussed with Darren and that we had similar errors doesn't mean we did, right? crap crap crap crap crap Am I in trouble?!"
And the super strange thing was that all she did while we were there was check whether we submitted our practicals. >_> Please don't freaking scare me like that. If that was all you intended to do, do it in your own leisure! I seriously thought we were in for a lecture or warning. After that my hunger pang just dissipated, and left me confused, and still wondering whether she still has the idea that we were copying code.
One thing I don't like about ms mylini is how she leaves us ALL in the lurch to figure out the answers. Even when we ask questions, her answers are cryptic and leave us all groping in the dark (think clean, people) for the path that she's trying to lead us to.
Computer Systems
Ms Elsa is a funny lecturer. Probably because of her age (no offense intended) she reminds me of Aunt Winnie. Both are uni lecturers, both are nice. Ms Elsa has a tendency to chew during her classes. Don't ask me what she's chewing. I once speculated that she's fiddling with her false teeth via some tongue gymnastics, while the rest conclude that she's eating gum. Whatever it is, it's amusing. And she tends to forget what she's talking about, only to ask herself (in front of us) "Okay, now where was I?" a few seconds' pause.
This subject wasn't too tough for me cause the lecture slides are so detailed (most of it anyway) that all she does is read off the slides. Except for maybe that time she was explaining how to use MARIE (for some reason, she pronounces it as 'Mary' while the rest of the world calls it 'Marie') First assignment was freaking long, but this second assignment I managed to finish half in one night. *throws confetti* Thank goodness for short assignments! Now I just need to proofread, something I didn't do for my first assignment, and to my horror, I noticed mistakes. *howls* *whacks self*
IT in Organizations
This has to be the subject I dislike the most! Not because of Mr Andrija though. Sure, he's nice and everything, but it's impossible to know whether I'm on the right track or not. With every question asked, the answer is entirely irrelevant. Or rather, with the answer only surfaces more questions, the main one being "Did he actually answer my question?" On top of that, it's starting to remind me of Moral. Because we have to read loads and loads and loads of stuff (what I mean by this is one 3-inch thick folder filled with text) and crap answers which I will never know are slightly correct or not. Although he gives us the suggested answers, which apparently are almost entirely different from what I've written (*sobs*), I now need to dechiper what kind of answers are expected. Are there keywords, or terms...or something? Anything? Give us a sign, dude, give us a sign!
But that aside his lectures are animated. Or rather, he is animated. Takes short gasps of breath from time to time, and whose favourite terms include 'communication' and 'your style'. I know there are more, I might post back when I refresh my memory with the lecture tomorrow.
Introductory Microeconomics
Mr Wong, the lecturer, is cock-eyed.
Another subject that I like because it's actually interesting (although I agree with ai-chan that now it makes everything so much more complicating than it actually is) and I like both my tutor and lecturer. Not in an unhealty sense *shrinks back in horror* but because you can actually tell that they're talking sense. XD At this point I dare not term this subject 'easy' lest Providence should work against me but I really really like this subject. Everyone seems to think that it's difficult. *sees '?' floating over my head*
zhengfai is a really fun person to be with, even though he's only in my tutorial class. I mean, he talks alot of crap, and has recently started to call me 'brother' *raises eyebrow*. Must be Friday's lecture that caused his insanity to hype up. But seriously, he knows his stuff, and he speaks Sri Lankan (that's what you get for being the only chinese guy in the apartment) ... well, mostly the cursewords and the basic terms, but that's a start. XD I kinda regret I didn't get to know him well in SAM but hey, something's gotta start somewhere at some point of time. Maybe it just had to be now, which could be a good thing. Having no prior knowledge and having someone like him who does has its plus points.
I'll save the classmates for later. Darren is sitting next to me, and just a minute ago he forgot my name. Or rather he wasn't sure of my name even though he got it right. XD This guy is funny.
