recap of the week
song of the moment: angela aki - Dahlia
Quickly became my favouredest song of the album, next to Requiem and some others from her album "Answer". Like a sequel to "Home". Her music this time slightly more experimental, but still retaining her flavour. I love this album! Much, much better than her 2nd album "Today" which was surprisingly forgettable from such a talent like hers.
Requiem really really *is* a requiem of 4 parts. I love this! Somehow I'm reminded of her cover of Freddy Mercury's "We Are The Champions" cause the piece is just as long. And she's really playing the piano for almost 10 minutes.. which is amazing.
I also love "Black Glasses"! A collab with Ben Folds (she's done covers of his other songs before) and I'll say this song is absolutely cute~ I love the lyrics:
And I wonder if this holds true for most people with glasses. XDI wear black glasses
Just a frame of me you see
Fancy window dressing
In the mirror glass, I reflect a bigger meI use them as a curtain
With two holes to see the world
When I’m not too certain
If the real me inside is the one who needs to hideIn my glasses I’m the Wizard of Oz
You can hear my voice;I hear your applause
Would you see a clown if the curtain came down
It could all turn around
If I take them off
Would you call it off?
If I take them off
Take them off for youWhen I wear black glasses
Am I hiding me from view?
Where’s my Lion’s Courage
And the Tin Man’s heart to feel I’ll be enough for you
"Our Story" sounds like.. a practical call for fairy tales to keep going and see what happens. Simple and erm.. to the point? That's how I felt about it anyway.
And of course, who could really forget about "tegami ~haikei juugo no kimi he" which really reminded me why I loved her to begin with =)
Like I said, I wasn't very impressed with her 2nd album "Today" cause it somehow wasn't very her.. making alot of the songs in the album forgettable and sort of wash into the background.

Jasmine posted a fair bit of her old notes on fb (writings, happenings and some simply hilarious stuff), and I'll say she's an amazing writer! Her style somewhat reflects her (from what I know of her, anyway.. somehow I identify with the violent bits - it's merciless sometimes but it's put in such a cool way! Very smooth telling, proper focus of characters and direction and heaps of potential! Come on and publish a book~ XD)

The day at the office was *really* a killer.. nearly bored me to death. Been experimenting with importing .jar files and adding libraries but all kinda failed.. when I successfully import my intended .jar, some other class entirely unrelated gives me a "No class definition found" error! WADAFARK I SAY! I didn't even touch the damn class la! If it's the class that I've been fooling around with then okay, yes, it should be displaying that error. But this simply stumps me.

I want another pair of skinny jeans. Not the super skinny ones, a slightly straighter cut, in a bluey wash so that I have one in blue, and one in black. Never found my faded grey ones but ah well..haha I can save that for another day.

Tuesday was very interesting. No Black Tie is absolutely worth the visit! Outward appearances were really very deceiving but we were pleasantly surprised. =)
Headed down with oji, got lost on the way there *and* back.. haha! On the way there, I think we had to circle Raja Chulan couple of times before we actually figured out what we missed.. it's like waking up the next day to find out that it's still yesterday =P On the way back, we made a few turns and ended up somewhere in Pudu? Like wtf we had no idea where the heck we were.. But heading towards the lights (literally) set us on the right path again. XD
Let's see, if I remember right it was a night of musical duets (
From what I remember of the performances:
- Quite a few numbers from Wicked (which I absolutely love! They did "For Good" and "Loathing"... they did a particularly good job with "Loathing" but I felt that "For Good" sounded abit rushed.. like they were chasing after the timing with the piano or something *shrugs*)
- one from Monty Python's Spamalot (sent me bursting into peals of laughter, I love the parts where Llew was saying stuff like "This song is getting waayy too long" and Steph going "You're stepping on my foot".. it was "The Song That Goes Like This" (haha did some quick Googling) and goodness this is SO FUNNYYYYYYYY~~
- "Wonderful" - this one is from a local production I think, forgot the name but gawd it was funny! "You can make rendang, that's so wonderful" to be countered with "What's so wonderful, just brown some onions" and my personal favourite: "you can have my husband", which was countered with "I've already HAD your husband" (2 ladies, one is the current wife of the other's ex-husband)
- one from Rent (which I just forgot.. I think the night wasn't meant for songs which were too slow =P)
- "The Internet is for Porn" (featured in Avenue Q but they had to tone it down as there were kids at the scene too, which was kind of a pity but oh well they decently covered it up - to quote Elvira, "Tough shit!" hahahaha!)
- another one about "Money" which was really really really.. very like someone I know! hahah first person that came to mind was morita (from hachikuro! =P)
- I like their encore piece, about being the reason to be alive.. I didn't catch the title. Like a sincere thank you for having such a great audience, which was a treat! XD
- The slow piece from Ms Saigon was kind of out of place.. not when they've got a worked up audience from all the upbeat and mostly hilarious pieces earlier.. but a good performance.
However with their voices and their character, I would be interested if they did something from "Legally Blonde" (Steph would make a good Elle Woods, somehow the song "Omigod You Guys" came to mind) or "Chang & Eng" (which is a fabulous production judging from the soundtrack - I actually missed the chance to go and watch it when it was performing here! *sigh! - but that was ages ago) and well since we're on the topic of Broadway musical pieces, I think from the atmosphere of the place (especially after they did "The Internet Is For Porn"), Les Miserables' "Lovely Ladies" would make a great addition. =P
I'm definitely going back there again.
Lesson learnt: *Book* a table cause it gets real crowded and busy if you end up sitting at the stairs like we did when we went.
