a thought bubble

This year had people seeing plenty of Death. Or Death seeing plenty of people. Works either way.

Among the bigger names, there's Michael Jackson. And Yasmin Ahmad.

I haven't had to go to a funeral for awhile. The last one I went was Master Sunny's.

I've also heard of plenty of friends' friends lost to road tragedies. A speeding car. Drunk driving. Dangerous driving, really. Just because it hasn't happened to you yet doesn't meant it won't. The most recent that I read (on facebook) was a person who was crossing the street just outside uni.

Which brings me to this - for people who love the thrill and the adrenaline, do they not think of others? The consequence they face when they're simply not alert about what's happening around them is terrifying. If you end up crashing into someone, it's ugly enough. But if the end result is death, wouldn't that be a weight you'd have to carry all your life? Knowing that you've killed someone in the pursuit of the thrill? Is it really worth it?

Not to mention all the people that will forever bear on your conscience on what you've done. You've taken away a part of their lives, no matter how big or how small that may be.

The road isn't just a straight line people travel on. There's random objects you might run over on the road. There will be people crossing the streets. There will be traffic lights. There will be speed limits. Do people just do what they please at the expense of others?

And then again, the fault isn't always the driver's. As I've learned, it goes both ways. There are also such creatures called idiot pedestrians. You can't expect people to just come to a screeching halt just because you're crossing the road. There are lights (and sounds for the visually impaired) for that. Being plain stupid (which can be caused and affected by many external factors such as alcohol) also encourages the existence of these idiot pedestrians.

Nobody thinks it's cool to challenge death. And of course, you very well know yourself that you can never be *too* careful. No matter where we are, it pays to be a good user of the roads - in a vehicle, or out of it.

On either side of the divide, a piece of advice is sound: use your brain, for goodness' sake.

And just imagine, that's one of the many *other* ways that cause death - unnecessarily.
