corpse bride

I just watched Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride. Now I regret not watching it in the cinema, it’s really worth the money to do so. Cause it’s quite funny, in a satirical way. And its also really sweet~ XP I sound like an idiot for saying this, but it’s true. It’s a really twisted love story, simply put. The starting captures the bleakness and the uptight community of the English in the past, and since the colours are not all that bright either, it fits juust nicely. =D

As for the departed, they’re quite a lively bunch. I mean, they have welcome parties for the recently deceased, how cool is that? They’ve got 2nd hand shops selling just the thing; second hands. XDXD So coool~

SPOILER ALERT
I particularly like this part, its about taking marriage vows;

With this hand I will lift your sorrows.
Your cup will never be enpty, for I will be your wine.
With this candle, I will light your way into darkness.
With this ring, I ask you to be mine.

And Victor, being quite the clumsy schoolboy trying to remember his lines right, says;

“With these hands, I will cup…No, no, what am I saying…”
“With this candle, I will….Set your mother on fire..” *sighh..*

Which just sent me into fits of laughing, I couldn’t help it. Johnny Depp’s voice as Victor Van Dort is fitting. And he’s such a gentleman too, right to the end, even though he was scared out of his wits having accidentally proposed to a corpse. Even though he looks like the weak guy who’s artistically inclined, and has no real intention of moving on….well.. until he meets Victoria. I say guys who play the piano have an extra edge, it attracts girls *laughs* Even the ladies know when to back off and when to stand up for themselves, atta girls! XD

The music is very nice,I hope to buy the soundtrack. Now previewing the tracks on the site. The musical approach (I think it’s a trademark of Tim Burton, from what I read) is good, I like~ It’s like re-living Nightmare Ned, I don’t know what prompted me to think of it. Maybe because of the harpsichord and the general feel of the music, very Halloween-ish and dark, fitting for the backdrop (like I said, bleak and dull but captures the essence of the times). The worm that lives in Emily’s head, his voice is very similar to a computer game I played once when I was about 9, I think it was an educational game or the other. Humm, must go dig up the game again, and check the voice actor, my hunch could be right…..
