the royale escapade
What can I say, if I had to go to uni on Fridays it had to be for something important, otherwise I wouldn’t go at all; after all, I’ve no classes. I stayed up the whole night (up to about what, 4am) completing the netdata comms report, which I think was a whole lot of jabberwocky but who cares, I was just damned happy I can get rid of it. I was supposed to meet up with zz but it kinda slipped my mind, I just handed it up and sped out. It wasn’t until I reached home and checked my phone that I realized he’d been looking for me. @__@ bleargh.
Hell = sitting on a chair getting your hair done… at home. Beverly probably tried to stuff the entire pack of hairpins onto my head, the end result resulted in using 17 long pins, 18 short pins and 4 elastic bands. How’s that for full-scale? It turned out alright though, so it was forgivable. I never liked makeup, but I don’t think it was acceptable to go without. Nothing special though. I liked my dress though, it was a cotton dress from blöok which I originally wanted to buy, but I thought I’d try soldiering on for hope of greener pastures. Unfortunately, further scouting rendered the prospects even bleaker than ever so I settled for it. Shoes were the same ones that yy and ellice helped me choose for last year’s corroborree from Sherron H, and jewelry I used the ones that mom bought for me from ‘girls’ I think. I betcha she loved that shop to bits because of its bright fuchsia interior which reminds me of the Mattel products (read: Barbie Dolls).
Guess which was the one I settled for~ Beverly’s hairdos aren’t bad, the deal is that I design, she brings it to life. Usually a little improvising is involved here and there, but all in good faith.
Went to pick up ty at about 315pm, I didn’t expect to reach his house on time (we’d agreed on 330pm) and we were both equally amazed that I arrived on time. At the guard house the guard gave me this semi-lewd-semi-weirded-out look and asked me where we were going dressed up like that, and gave ty this grin (Wha..? Don’t ask me what it implied, I don’t know, nor do I want to). Aanyway. I remember we were talking about some business-related matter most of the time. Nothing bad about it, but it sure reflects on how immature my mind was, wandering off and thinking of less mature/adult/working life-related material which I suppose every other kid’s mind must learn to adopt to, like an inevitable disease. Sometimes I feel lost when conversations get like this, but I’m happy to report ty hasn’t lost touch with either side. So much for sitting on the fence, I bet your ass will begin to numb sometime.
Nothing beats entering the college in formal attire; all the stares it attracts, it makes a good conversation starter. But if you’re the one being looked at by a horde of college/uni students in comfort wear, like jeans and shirts and sneakers, you have to at least feel abit self-conscious now right? I sure did. @_____@ Waiting was a heated affair, and I meant that literally. Doesn’t help that you’re wearing a long-sleeved shirt (for the guys anyway, I was wearing my short jacket temporarily, put on my shawl/scarf later during the event itself – my nice one from Giordano I bought @ hongkong) sitting under a miserable ceiling fan. Yvonne was one lucky lass to have caught me in this attire and she insisted on a photo (I had no intention of lifting my butt off the chair but you have to know when to be compliant, no?) to which ty was only too happy to apply his photographic skill unto.
Yk was wearing a blood red shirt coupled with a silver tie (shineeeyyy X3) and zz looked like a working-class salaryman, nothing noone says is gonna change that; If I’m not mistaken, he was wearing an ash grey suit with a white shirt and black tie. When his tie’s loose he looks somewhat like a Chinese mafia. As for the ah beng mafia boy I suppose Alvin played the part to perfection (it’s true! but knowing him it’s probably one of the most decent wear I’ve seen him in. His other blue shirt which I quite like he said was lost/stolen, I don’t know, this dude has some issues with his housemates) but well you can imagine him as one of those drunks in a bar after work during happy hour, dressed in a white shirt and black blazer and pants. Oo right, and foong had this bright purple tie, the tie will sure draw attention if not anything else. Really bright, almost to a Barney quality. Maybe that and a dark purple, with diagonal lines. He’s really nice though; Seeing that ty here didn’t bring a tie he decided to run up to his room and bring one for him too. tsk tsk tsk, ty, look at the effort people exert for you. =D Daniel wore a shirt with light blue stripes and a dark blue tie, looked okay. I suppose there isn’t much for guys to choose from to wear at formal events. I was just thinking, I’m sure juice would get a good kick from just looking at the circus of formally dressed people. Jinny joined us too, but she wasn’t wearing formal since she’s the official photographer covering the event. We all just looked blankly while Jinny and ty talked photography talk, and just marveled at his pretty refined hobby (with lenses that easily cost over RM1000… ya think?) But I’ve gotta hand it to them, they’re good at what they do. The only other person worthy of mention since we’re at it should be hou, definitely one of the many aficionados.
I’m just abit surprised ty would stinge on a good blazer, it’s practically paper thin; I can see ty from the other side of it. Like Daniel here pointed out, the one ty has has no inner lining. I’d never seen practicality at its worst, but yeah someone High Up decided it was high time I did. I’m not horrified, just plain surprised.
As Calie had exams until 5pm, we waited for her to get ready (by which it was about 6pm) Ben and Calvin joined us at the main entrance as the foyer was cleared out for a lantern festival celebration. Ben’s brown shirt was nice though, kinda makes him look like chocolate. Not edible, mind you. >_> Just a pity he didn’t have a blazer. Calvin’s shirt was the white collared one I’d seen only once before when all of us agreed to wear white earlier during the first sem, and I still like that shirt but no I don’t want one.
Quote of the day:
“Oh my god, what day is it today… I must buy a Toto ticket! You’re wearing a dress, you’re wearing heels, and you’re not wearing your glasses…!!! I can see your legs! For the first time man!!” – Alvin, 2006
Damn, this really warrants a “WTF?!” from me. That part about the legs made it sound like I didn’t have legs before this, like I’m some kind of ghost. 本当にこんなびっくりした?!
Before this I was lamenting on the irony that I would have to ferry the guys around, and why wasn’t it the other way round, blablabla… but it turned out that I got to drive all the girls (Jinny and Calie) and well I was glad I had Jinny cause I wasn’t confident I could get there without getting lost; furthermore, Ben’s car was following mine. ty drove his friend’s car cause she was afraid of driving alone, they made a wrong turn and Daniel had to save them from destitution.
Okay, so they didn’t end up in destitution or whatever.
Stupid heels I was wearing made me drive barefoot cause my foot felt like it was stuck to the floor every time I tried to hit the brake/accelerator while I was wearing them. I think we reached about 630ish, not sure. I was just glad we got there XP
If I didn’t already know it, Alvin knows how to make the most lewd remarks. It didn’t stop here, he was anxious to take pictures with the ‘horse’ (try looking for a word that sounds exactly like it and you’ll get what he was trying to get at) among others. The reception area was getting quite crowded, it was difficult to find a place to commune without getting in the way of someone or the other taking photos, waiting for someone else or talking about nothing and everything (which was what we were doing too anyway) cw and c2 were at the booth where they were to hand out door gifts and stamp parking tickets for a flat rate (whoa I didn’t know their parking rates were by the hour and could total to quite a hefty amount if you didn’t watch the clock) Saw Melvin too, he was sitting at the Monga table and I didn’t know!
The ballroom itself was quite nice. Although occasionally you had the words falling off it was quite a neat set up, and the chairs in the middle reminded me of the ones they had at the foyer some time back for some cultural event (to which yk or someone else teased about it being a seat for the bride and groom… I think the unfortunate victims were Calvin and cw X3) and so this was maybe a version 1.5 or something XPXPXP Penny… looks… different… but she looks great! And I like c2’s dress too, in sizzling and shiney red! Hot would be a good word to use here. =D cw was wearing a gold embroidered tube dress, which makes her look fairer. So much so that some of the photos that they took using zz’s camera made them look slightly ghostly. Hehehe, no, I was just kidding, it wasn’t due to the dress, zz’s Olympus’ flash was just really bright and there wasn’t anything much he coulda done.
Most of it was a gradual stream of performances leading to the voting of the Mr and Mrs Monash (which sounds very parental.. egh) none of them were really that notable, and well it wasn’t exactly the best choice to have a catwalk showcasing items from Wh. One more thing, none of the guy contestants can sing, I nearly ended up choking on what I was eating (whatever it was) cause I couldn’t stop laughing. The choreographed dancing wasn’t anything to shout about, after seeing the best in high school (Funky Sox was one of them… or at least the one that had a group name which I remember) and no way I was gonna lower my standards after seeing the best. Bellydancing seems to be a popular choice of performance, now wouldn’t it be great if they had pole dancing too…. >_> The martial arts ones (mostly breaking one-inch planks which I don’t think is very difficult, of course for the people who have no idea how soft the wood can get, it’s probably good) were noteworthy if not for the fact that the ones who were doing it were girls, but man the second one had the audacity to play kitaro music which totally ruined it. There was a guy who did a Michael Jackson impersonation and moved on to shuffling, that one wasn’t too bad either. But really, guys, just don’t open your mouth to sing.
The non-contestant vocal performances were good though, probably cause they had to go through an elimination process in which they survived. Joanne’s voice was. high. But performers who can play an instrument are always something to watch. I think a duo of guys performed an instrumental version of tong hua, and got most of the audience to sing since I guess someone had to fill in the gap instrumentals make for vocals. Nice.
Calvin was stuck alone @ the Monga table since Jinny and ty were out being click-happy most of the time, and after awhile he migrated to our table. Naturally. Soon after another girl whose car ty was driving migrated to our table too, since the rest of her table left to I don’t know where, that ups the count to 12. In a matter of minutes, we’re the ‘most happening table’ (c2, 2006). X3 Towards the end, ty joined our table, upping the count to lucky 13. Sometimes the inevitable feeling of being bored flooded the table, usually caused by the lack of things to do. At least it didn’t last for too long, someone’s always doing something silly or the other (usually Ben or Alvin or both)
About eleven, ty’s finally done and we could escape the escapade to go mamak, to which we had to find Alvin who ran off to god-knows-where to have a good long chat with his girlfriend (Calvin speculated that he’s wishing his girlfriend was here after seeing one of the more provocative bellydance performances… well he NEARLY hit the mark) and Ben was making all this stupid remarks loudly while yk and I were just kacauing him so that we could leave already. Took a final 3 shots to fill up ty’s memory card and get moving.
About 10 minutes after we left, and I was blissfully driving back to Sunway, Jinny Called.
“Hello? I thought we agreed that I was following you back to Sunway too.”
Shit. I’d forgotten about Jinny.
“Oh crap, I forgot! Wait for me alright, I’m coming back to pick you up now.”
Naturally, I panicked. I thought there was no way to turn back until I saw the traffic lights where the Petronas station was. Relief and anxiousness beckoned as I made this super-illegal U-turn back to Jinny and nearly caused ty & Ben to get into an accident. After picking her up we headed down to Petronas and I got Ben asking me,
“Are you sure that turn wasn’t illegal?”
Inwardly, I thought, “I’m pretty sure it was. LIKE DUHHHHHHH!”
“Yea. I’m sorry, I didn’t think you guys actually tried to follow me back…Sorry, sorry..”
“You nearly caused ty to get into an accident, while he was turning the lights were red and this car nearly hit him!”
Double shit. >_< But at least nothing happened to him, it was quite scary to think that he might’ve gotten into it and it would be my fault if it did happen.
Sunway @ night is a sight to behold, with no parking spaces and hordes of people flooding the mamak and bars/pubs. It took us about 20 minutes to get a space to park in and another 5 to walk to the mamak since Calie’s feet were hurting like crazy due to her shoes. Watched Pearl Harbor while downing edibles (and drinkables, for the record)
Ben, Calvin and Alvin left earlier, and soon after the 2 girls (I’d sent Jinny back first before going to the mamak) leaving the rest of us (foong, yk, zz, ty, Daniel). At this point of time I was pretty sleepy, my eyes were starting to feel heavy, but I guess it’s true when they say driving wakes you up. Sent the guys back (hah, so this time I did get 4 ‘bodyguards’ to escort me back – Foong, yk, zz and ty) and there you have it, I ended up coming home at about 2am.
Thinking about it, sleeping @ 4am, waking @ 8am to finish the report, and sleeping again @ 2am the following morning is not a safe practice. Energy restored in 4 hours’ sleep is not enough to sustain 18 hours of activity. Dad actually waited up for me, probably cause on his suggestion I call every half hour from 12am which I did, causing him to stay awake. Oh well. That was a day well spent. Now Sydney, here I come!
